Gouache, pen and ink on light coloured paper 
Applying the techniques of Bawden's limited colour palettes to create an atmosphere of the 1950's. Although I like the blue and yellow together, I think the harsh black background over powers it and doesn't help portray the poem in the way I want too. I do like the figure (Mr.Bleaney) at the window and I think the composition would work well for near the end of the poem.

  1. A lovely colour palette - taken from an appropriate point of reference. I take your point of the black being too harsh and also it would limit your ability to use light and shade but perhaps an inky blue might work.
