Tirzah Garwood

Garwood was the wife of Ravilious, they met when they were both at art school where he was her teacher. The similarities between their work is visible but Garwood worked more within woodcuts than her husband. This piece titled 'The Train Journey' I think portrays an atmosphere of loneliness and the passing of time which is what I want to explore within my work. Garwood's way of making none of the characters look directly at the audience portrays a sense of detachment which I think helps to create the atmosphere of some sort of loss. Her way of creating intense detail in her scenes surroundings is also something I want to explore within my own work.
