Authorship proposal

To progress my work further from my dissertation, I am going to explore how the proletariat is represented within Ken Loach's early films of Cathy Come Home, Poor Cow and Up the Junction.

Throughout my essay I explored how the author Thomas Hardy and the director Tony Richardson portrayed the working-class to have no agency within society. From this there were many paths I could of taken, by staying with Hardy and exploring his writing visually or keep with exploring cinematic visuals instead.

I briefly mentioned Ken Loach within my essay as he is one of the most prominent kitchen sink realists who is still working today, because of this, I feel it gives me a new opportunity with my practice to work with a live audience rather than in previous projects I have kept my work to myself.

Loach formed a socialist party called 'Left Unity' who I have been in contact with in regards to them promoting this project and hopefully having their logo included in some of my pieces.  Through the process of this project I hope to help other working-class people find some beauty within their every-day lives and to shed light on the social issues we have in today's society. I think the visuals of film and illustration work well to create appreciation around Loach's films.

My aim is to explore these works and present them to today's audience as sadly some of the issues Loach portrays are still relevant and they encompass the 'poetic realism' that I value within all Hardy and the British social realists works.
