Ken Loach

Loach's career first took off when he directed Cathy Come Home in 1964 for the Wednesday Play, it features Carol White as a married mother whose family quickly descend into poverty due to no fault of their own. After the film's release the homelessness laws were changed as it revealed the true stories and lives of those that are homeless rather than branding people with the same labels.

Poor Cow (1967) followed shortly after, where again Carol White portrays a single mother toeing the line of poverty, Loach provides an unbiased view of sex workers and sheds light on the enjoyment Joy has as she tries to make her life as good as it can be with the little she has.

Throughout Authorship it is important to me to re-introduce these films to perhaps a younger audience and keep them current within today's society. Loach is an incredibly important director and social commentator, he manages to add a comfortable quality to people who are struggling, and I think many people now would relate to these works and find comfort in them as I have.
