Social Realism Within Art - Hogarth
Social realism within art was first formed in the 18th century with William Hogarth but grew popular within the 19th century.
One of his most typical works of social realist form is the series titled 'Modern Moral Subject' the first set was titled 'The Harlot's Progress' 1732.
I think it is important within my exploration of Ken Loach's films that I first explore where some of these terms came from and how they have been explored visually before.
Through looking at Hogarth's work and the compositions of his etchings, I think will help with how I explore my images as I often struggle with the background of my scenes if the characters are outside.
Despite this piece being produced in 1732 it to me is still very obviously concerned with the social aspect of the characters rather than a genre associated with fantasy or romance which is something I am adamant to convey within my work.
