Shelagh Delaney Sweetly Sings the Donkey

Shelagh Delaney Sweetly Sings the Donkey 1968

Collection of short stories that Shelagh wrote in 1963. All of these books are pretty much out of print now so I was lucky to find this one from the 60's I have the full collection of Shelagh's work now.
The stories were really good and they reminded me of J.D Salinger's collection of Nine Stories as they are set in the everyday but are quite strange. The first story Sweetly Sings the Donkey is based on Shelagh's time in a convalescent home when she was younger.

I think these stories more than the plays portray the strength of Shelagh's writing and that her working-class upbringing has strengthened her work rather than hinder it.

Despite working from Loach's films I think Shelagh has really inspired these recent prints and helped pushed me in the right direction in knowing what I want to do.
