Suffolk Workers print idea

Because I think the print of me in the pub is successful I wanted to do another. Not only visually but the significance of the pub in Poor Cow and for the working-class is something I've always explored in my work. The picture I'm working from was taken by Libby Hall in 1966 Link to page of collection of photos in one of the workers pubs in Suffolk, I've worked from the photos before in my first year when I was exploring the passing of time in the atmosphere of pubs. I think it's very fitting that I'm using a working mans pub as the stories I am exploring are the stories of these men. I also like the contrast of a woman putting on her earrings and her looking in the mirror in the pub as both parties are leaning into the stereotypes of the working-class. The man is a hard worker, low paid and drinks, the woman is solely concerned with her looks. |
