Notes from this weeks WCML talk - Matthew Kidd's new book Renewal of Radicalism; politics, identity and idealogy in England 1867-1924 In this talk Matthew talked about his book and the links between the forming of radicalism and how this effected the forming of the labour party in 1924. I found the talk really interesting especially when Labour as a party now is not on the left at all or for the people, this is a good reminder what labour as a political party should be doing. Some of the original party policies from local activists were The rights of trade unionists That the state should provide work for these unable to find it Universal suffrage not just U.K Trade Union rights for men and women Secular education 1862 |
