A Taste of Honey Collages

Some collages for preparation of scenes in A Taste Of Honey
As using myself for reference worked successfully in the last project I wanted to carry it on, as the notion of me partaking in the scenes as an actor and bringing the stories and themes of the work into today is still something I want to keep and explore with Shelagh's plays.

There are three main characters within the play, Jo, Helen who is her neglective mother and Geof Jo's gay friend who she goes to live with during her pregnancy.

1. The first collage I wanted to explore Helen and Jo in one of the rooms they rent before Jo leaves, they are described to be almost slums and very bare. Jo also is pictured doing lots of things for her mother as Helen is very often drinking whiskey in the play.

2. The canal is a big setting in the play, Jo meets the 'boy' who impregnates her there.

3. I wanted to explore the contrast of the bare room Jo shares with her Mother to the cosy room she later shares with Geof. Although it is still very rundown I want to explore the love and security Jo receives from Geof as he is directed to be always cooking and looking after Jo in contrast to when she was with her mother.

4. Another one at the docks/canal I think this one would convert well into print.

Although I think all of these collages would look good in print and portray the story well, I don't think they're as complex as what they could be, perhaps because A Taste of Honey is already a film. Before I start to print I will create some scenes from The Lion in Love, Shelagh's second play as that hasn't been adapted for the screen.
