This weeks talk from the WCML was with Lauren Murphy who spoke about the process of creating a memorial for the miners who had worked at Bradford Colliery. During the late 1960's the colliery was taken down along with the slum clearances lots of Bradford's community and heritage was lost. Lauren started the memorial in memory of her Grandfather who had been paralysed in a mining accident, after he passed away she wanted to create something to remember him and the heritage of the miners. It was very inspirational to see the outcomes and effects a creative idea can have and to create such an important part of history sums up well the reasons why I explore the value of working-class lives in the past. |
