Socialist party talk - Anniversary 150th of Paris Commune 1871

On Sunday there was a talked hosted by the CWI (Committee for the Workers International)
along with the Socialist party to remember the Paris Commune and the Communards in Paris 1871.
I didn't know a lot about the event which is why I wanted to attend the talk, I had read bits about it in Gavin McCrea's
Mrs Engels where lots of Parisian refugees turn up on their doorsteps and that the overturning of the Government in Paris
had been inspired by Marx and Engels's writings.
The people of Paris had been living in poverty and joined the national guard in order to arm themselves, when the government tried to take away some of these weapons the people fought back and the government went to hide in Versailles from March the 18th to May the 28th. The people had workers in government positions and starting to make the changes they knew was necessary for a fairer government such as distributing food fairly and separating religion from the state.
When the government returned they murdered thousands of communards including children.
Today there is nothing to remember the people who gave their lives for the sake of the workers and everyday people of Paris which shows how easy it is to miss and rewrite history.
The talk was very informative and I think it's such a good part of the party that there's free talks and access
to important education.
