The NHS 1% Payrise what the underpaid sector of care workers means today

The NHS and the 1% Pay Rise
As we can see, the Government has never valued the work of
carers or nurses, through constant privatisation and wage cuts from the 1980’s
until today, when, during a pandemic they have refused to pay the NHS the wages
they deserve. If the NHS don’t deserve proper funding and pay now, they
will never get it. In an interview Boris claimed that the 1% was ‘as much as we
can’ afford at the moment. Despite
spending billions of pounds on a private track and trace that doesn’t even
work. Matt an NHS Nurse spoke to the Socialist Party about what
needs to be done. ‘Instead,
we've been told there isn't any money. But there were literally tens of
billions of pounds for privatised track and trace, crony PPE deals, and for MPs
to get a pay rise. We
all deserve more - every single carer, nurse, physio, porter, technician,
administrative staff, occupational therapist, and every member of staff in the
NHS. We all deserve better, for holding the hand of the lonely patient, for
being redeployed not knowing where we'll work, for being an inspiration to each
other and everyone in the county. The
time is now for us to act. Our union representatives need to step up.’ Despite needing the workers and nurses voices heard a nurse was fined
£10,000 for protesting against the 1% pay. ‘The
rally was socially distanced. Around the corner there were groups of people
queuing to buy coffee - that was allowed. And the day after, millions of school
children returned to school. But we were stopped by the police from protesting
about this disgraceful kick in the teeth from the Tory government.
Striking
Go Buses drivers from Unite union joined the rally from their picket line.
Unfortunately, no one was allowed to speak, apart from to advise the crowd that
the rally wasn't allowed to go ahead. And police cleared the area after
arresting one woman and handing an outrageous £10,000 fine to the organisers.’ |
