The WCML library got back to me on Friday the 5th to say that the collection of archives of the Tameside Care Group strike in 1998 would benefit from some visual work. I hadn't heard of the strike before, but in March 1998 over 300 workers went on strike against the implementation of new contracts which enforced pay reductions. Tameside Care Group is a private care provider and the majority of the workers were single mothers. Lynette mentioned that the library has some letters of support, newspaper cuttings and some press photos that I could work from to create some pieces for the library.
I think this would be a perfect project for Unit X and the end of my Illustration degree, as although it is different from working from films, I think it has summarised my motivation behind my work and I will be able to use it for something meaningful.
