Alice Neel 1900 - 1984

Alice Neel - 1900 - 1984

John mentioned the artist Alice Neel to me as someone who portrays very interesting yet
simple, characters and portraits. I was surprised when I saw that she was working within the 1930's as I think her paintings look very contemporary and they have more modern faces in comparison to the other portrait painters of the time.
She has quickly became a new favourite of mine as I think they are very honest and hold the realistic yet unproportionate figures which I like.

I think within my work I also pay more attention to holding a gaze and getting some discreet emotion in the face rather than it being biologically correct and within more detailed prints I always draw the eyes slightly too big.
